M. A. Joiner began drawing at an early age when his father would bring home items such as ICEE cups and encourage him to duplicate the images on them. He developed a love for drawing quickly and would get lost in comic books, always dreaming of the day when he would produce such images.
At 15 years of age he was encouraged by an English teacher to pursue an interest in poetry after recognizing his talent for writing. He earned an Associates degree in Graphic Design from Hinds Community College and studied Art at Jackson State University. He worked as a graphic artist for a regional grocery chain before circumstances would lead him to a career in law enforcement. The retired police sergeant now returns to the note pad and art table to create children’s literature and illustrations to hopefully ignite the imaginations of young minds everywhere.
His motto: “The Tales In My Head Wouldn’t Fit At All If I Didn’t Wear A Hat That Was Ten Feet Tall!”
